“The Rape of Europa” (2025) by Shklatar Collective unfolds as a hyperreal simulation of the ancient myth, where the boundary between the symbolic and the real collapses under the weight of contemporary Europe’s disintegration. This installation is not merely an artwork; it is a simulacrum of Europe itself, suspended in the endless oscillation of meaning, power, and collapse, just as the kneeler upon which the frail figure of Europa rocks, endlessly but aimlessly, suspended in a void.

Europa is no longer a symbol of conquest or desire but of violation — exposed in a grotesque, post-violence state. Her gaze is fixed on a live currency exchange board, the reduction of Europe’s fate to the cold, fluctuating logic of global capital.

Set within a real currency exchange office, the installation merges art with everyday life, confronting unprepared viewers with the fragile, disintegrating figure of Europe. The demographic crisis, with a growing elderly population overwhelming the working class, is not merely a forecast but a ghostly presence, abstracted into data points circulating like currency.
